Day 51- Fifth Third Bank

OCTOBER IS SPINA BIFIDA AWARENESS MONTH.

Tomorrow it’s back to UCF again, and I’ll have lots to do, as I have an electronic media and technology exam coming up very soon! But, here’s the scoop on “Day 51.” Interestingly enough, Fifth Third Bank actually became “the first financial institution in the United States to establish a charitable foundation.” As stated in the “Giving Our Communities a Lift” section of their Web site, The Fifth Third Foundation made over $3.4 million in grants in 2008. Their Community Development Corporation invests in “community housing and revitalization projects in local neighborhoods.”

What’s more, the corporation has done much more for the Central Florida community on a local level. I accessed a list that broke down the different organizations that Fifth Third contributed to in 2008. These included American Red Cross of Central Florida, Boys & Girls Clubs, Heart of Florida United Way, Junior Achievement, March of Dimes, Orlando Science Center, Seminole Community College, and United Cerebral Palsy, to name a few. And, last year, they held a toy drive for New Hope for Kids’ Center for Grieving Children.

I can only begin to imagine the many times that the bank’s humanitarian efforts have touched my own life, and the people in our extended spina bifida community, however indirectly.

Despite the improper fraction in their logo, this bank is all about sharing the wealth with others in need!

In other news, it may only be October, but here in Florida, it’s already “beginning to look a lot like Christmas!” After months of sweltering heat and unpredictably frightening thunderstorms that would wait for me to get off the bus, the chilly weather and the need for long sleeves are a welcome relief. If it gets too blustery, I’ll have plenty of reasons to stay indoors tomorrow, studying in the company of a hot latte!

Hope you have an absolutely beautiful week!

Love,

Laurita  ;-)
