The PC's biggest rival is an admirable contributor to social causes.
According to the Apple Web site, a new program called Charity Checks allows people to donate any amount to a non-profit organization in someone else’s name. It makes a Charity Check the perfect gift for somebody who likes to give back. In a way, you are paying it forward, to both the non-profit, and the person you give the donation for.
In 2004, Apple partnered with the record label, Modiba Records, for the release of the album The Afrobeat Sudan Aid Project. All proceeds went towards helping the victims of the violent upheaval in Darfur. Apple agreed to host the album on iTunes for free.
Additionally, in 2006, Apple released a red iPod Nano. For every one of these Nanos sold, Apple donated $10 to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
So, the company that has made itself a household name in technology uses its wide recognition to make a difference in the world.
Now, I have to sign off and get ready to go to Church. I’m also enjoying a “Law & Order: SVU” Marathon on USA. I hope I don’t need to explain my addiction to that show to anybody.
