Well, I promised a second entry tonight, and here it is! I’ve decided to write to actor/actress couple John Travolta and Kelly Preston. Their son Jett died tragically last year, at the age of 16. His parents set up a foundation in his honor. The Jett Travolta Foundation aims “to use its resources specifically to assist and provide relief to children with vision, hearing, mobility, communication, behavior learning impairments or other special medical, environmental, health or educational needs.”
The mission statement on the foundation’s Web site basically sets very broad parameters for the assistance they give, which is very good news to those of us in the physically-challenged community, and also to the spina bifida and hydrocephalus community.
The young Jett Travolta had autism, which, as we know, is gaining public awareness. If all of the different organizations representing people with neurological, physical, or mental conditions came together to raise awareness about spina bifida, which is very layered and multi-faceted, what a huge difference it would make for all of us fighting for this cause today.
