She is world famous for hit singles like “Disturbia,” but there is nothing disturbing about Barbadian-born R & B singer and model Rihanna! In fact, she is very heavily involved in charitable efforts.
In 2006, Rihanna created the Believe Foundation in order to “give children a chance to thrive.” Her foundation provides medical and emotional support to children with terminal illnesses. Additionally, the charity offers clothing for children in homeless shelters, and supplies for “poorly funded public schools.”
But the glamour queen hardly stops there. According to Look to the Stars, Rihanna’s charity is affiliated with DKMS, whose mission is to find bone marrow donors for leukemia patients.
She performed at Madonna’s Raising Malawi/UNICEF fundraiser, and even used her fame to help a mother of two find a bone marrow donor. Other charities she is involved with include the Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation, Mission Australia, the Red Cross, Feeding America, Designers Against AIDS, MusiCares, and DoSomething.org.
And we’ve barely scratched the surface. Indeed, I have an even deeper respect for Rihanna now.
It’s been a pretty busy week for me. I’ve had loads of homework, as the summer semester is shorter than the typical fall or spring term. Still, little by little, I will keep at it with my efforts in taking spina bifida awareness a step further.
But, one thing at a time!
Love,
Laurita ♥
